Vegetable Sommelier Report ~青果物の区別~

Posted by mittanr on   0 comments   0 trackback

I did the review of vegetable sommelier's class in English, and I had corrected it with my English teacher. It was so difficult to describe in English for me, but my teacher helped me very eagerly.
So, I had a very very wonderful learning time.
Today, I'd like to post a part of my report.

Difference between Fruit and Vegetables

Fruits = Almost all are perennial plants, are borne from trees,
and are used as dessert ingredients.
They are at their most edible when they’re ripe.

Vegetables=Almost all are annual plants, are borne from plants,
and are used as side dish ingredients.
They are at their most edible just before they’re completely ripe.

Ex. We eat bean-sprouts when they have germinated.
We eat cabbages before their flowers have come out.
We eat cucumbers before they have ripened fully.

Vegetables are usually harvested just before they are ripe.
It is , so to speak , an interception of growth for vegetables.

Some fruits have aspects of vegetables, and some vegetables have aspects of fruits.
Ex. Fruits which have aspects of vegetables= Lemon, Yuzu, Avocado…
They are fruits but we often eat them as side dishes.
Vegetables which have aspects of fruits = Strawberry, Melon, Watermelon…
They are vegetables but we often eat them as desserts.
